HOLLISTER
A film in which local actor Cesar Flores has a role will have four showings April 8 at Premiere Cinemas in Hollister.
The film “August Evening” features Flores in a supporting role. It’s the latest high-profile opportunity for Flores, who has been a staple with El Teatro Campesino for the last 30 years and has had various roles in TV and film.
Flores said that the film is all in Spanish but there are English subtitles.
“It gives you an in-depth look at a Mexican immigrant whose kids were born here (in the United States),” he said. “You see the dynamics of him being from Mexico and his kids being from here.”
Flores added that the film also looks at the current situation of many Mexican immigrants – “guys looking for jobs, just how they are trying to survive.”
According the film’s Web site: “August Evening follows an aging undocumented farm worker named Jaime and his young, widowed daughter-in-law, Lupe, as their lives are thrown into upheaval. Lupe is more of a daughter to Jaime than his own children, and the two try to stick together … but change is inevitable.”
Along with a role in the film “Cutting Horse” and a role in the documentary “The So Called Disaster,” Flores recently played a part in a commercial for Kaiser Permanente. The commercial aired during the Olympics and for months after and featured Flores riding a bike near the end of it.
August Evening will be shown at 1:30 p.m., 4 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. on April 8 at Premiere Cinemas, 641 McCray St., in Hollister.
