Hollister – Police are looking for a man who is believed to have stolen several hundred dollars’ worth of adult novelties from a downtown lingerie store Monday.
Police believe the man stole the items – valued at about $318 – from a backroom of Boutique de Lingerie on San Benito Street, according to Officer Rosie Betanio.
“This is the first time I’ve heard of someone stealing items such as these,” she said.
Store employee Christina Ocampo said she thought the man, described as being of average height and weight with a shaved head, was homeless based on his dress and appearance.
Ocampo said she had helped the man select several items from the store’s adult novelty section located in a back room of the store. The man then asked that the items be put on hold at the front counter while he went home to get money to purchase them. When he returned to the store less than 30 minutes later, the man again went the rear of the building, according to Ocampo. Without stopping to pick up the items he had placed on hold, the suspect left through the store’s backdoor while Ocampo was busy with another customer.
“That’s when I realized we had been ripped off,” she said. “We’ve had small things stolen before, but this is the first major theft. I mean you couldn’t imagine the things he took.”
If caught, the suspect could face charges of second-degree burglary, Betanio said.

Laceration Concerns Prompt Shoe Recall
Hollister – Footwear manufacturer Nine West is recalling nearly 7,000 pairs of girls’ sandals over concerns that they can potentially cut peoples’ feet.
The recall of about 6,700 pairs of Sam and Libby girls’ thong sandals was announced Thursday by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Metal tacks used to hold the thongs together might pull out of the sole of the shoe and injure the person wearing them. The Fish, Starfish and Angelfish models of the sandals are subject to the recall. No injuries have yet been reported, according to the CPCS.
The sandals, which cost between $12 and $20, were sold from March to April. For more information call Nine West’s customer relations department at 800-999-1877.
