Dear Editor:
I decided to write this letter after reading about so much negativity between our leaders. I feel Measure G left a very sour taste between people in this community. People understood Measure G was meant to “kill one to save the other.” I feel the few responsible for Measure G are to blame for all of the negativity and problems we are having now.
It is time for them to step aside and not create any more tension for this community. There are many things they could get involved with like nonprofit organizations if they have nothing else to do. If they don’t understand what 69 percent means, they should go back to school.
I can see the ones that lost by 10 votes had more reason to complain. Al Gore left a good example that everybody should follow. He stepped aside with the votes to win for the good of the country. And for the peace of this community, the losers should step aside with grace. We are experiencing so much anger, rudeness, hate and greed so suddenly in a small community like this. I feel many county employees have forgotten who’s paying their wages. Many are acting like police officers. In the days I worked there, they would have gone down the road quick.
There is no question there is need for change. I don’t like to see the way a lot of people have been treating our clerk, John Hodges. I have known him and his family for over 40 years. They attend the same church my family attends. I remember the way John’s father, a gentleman, used to walk: So gentle as not to hurt the ground where he would step, so afraid not to step on a bug crossing his trail. John inherited some qualities of his father. John is a man who can adjust with the rich, poor, young or old. I have never heard any complaints from his employees. Some employees have been there for a long time. He has a very responsible job. We all make mistakes.
As you all know, we all carry some dirt in our pockets. I don’t think John Hodges has purposefully done anything to hurt anyone. It is time to stop killing one to save the others. I feel if John ever decides to run for any county office, he has a very good chance to beat the opponent. I feel if he steps away from his job once in a while to get fresh air and relieve his tension, there is nothing wrong with that.
This is only my opinion, but I’m sure I have many on my side.
