A magnitude-2.9 earthquake briefly shook Hollister on Monday evening, centered seven miles southwest of the city and six miles southeast of San Juan Bautista, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake occurred at 7:18 p.m., according the USGS Web site, with an epicenter centered just outside the western edge of Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area.

There was no reported damage from the quake.
