Our first Red Phone caller of the week, a local woman, asked the
Crimson Crusader to get something done about the potholes at either
end of Baler Alley near San Benito High School. Our hero notified
city officials of the problem Tuesday. Julian Gaytan, filling in
for Hollister Street Supervisor Ray Rojas, said he would repair the
potholes as soon as possible.

Roadkill Cleanup

Our next Red Phone caller, a local man, asked how to report a dead animal to the city and get it cleaned up. Our caller said he had noticed a dead cat on the east corner of Memorial Drive and Hillcrest Road in Hollister.

The Crimson Crusader reported the cat to the Hollister Animal Control office. Staff told our hero that the problem would be taken care of promptly. Local residents can report similar problems to Animal Control by calling 831-636-4320.

Birthday Wishes

Our next Red Phone caller, a Santa Clara University student, called the Crimson Crusader to wish Free Lance reporter Alice Joy a happy birthday this week. Thanks, dearest caller, our hero will be sure to pass along the message.

Energy Conservation

Our next Red Phone caller, a local resident, asked the Crimson Crusader for some energy savings tips. The Crimson Crusader, always eager to help, did some research and found a new program that may help.

Recently, the Association of Monterey Bay Area Governements teamed up with Pacific Gas and Electric to offer San Benito County residents Energy Watch, a program designed to help homeowners reduce energy usage and save money. Homeowners can call the Energy Watch office at 1-888-324-0930 to request an in-home visit from an energy specialist who can help come up with energy-saving strategies. The service is free. There you have it, dearest caller. Good luck.
