Local teacher and newspaper columnist Adam Breen has joined the staff of The Weekend Pinnacle as a reporter.
Breen, who is in his fourth year of teaching newspaper and yearbook at San Benito High School, said he is looking forward to returning to his reporting roots. The Fresno State University graduate worked as a reporter, lifestyles editor, city editor, and editor-in-chief at the Free Lance from 1993 to 1999.
He then worked as a writer and magazine editor at Santa Clara University until 2005, when he returned to his high school alma mater to teach and advise the production staffs of The Baler student newspaper and the SBHS yearbook.
“The reshuffling of my teaching schedule this year encouraged me to pursue this writing opportunity at The Pinnacle,” said Breen, who has lived in Hollister for nearly 30 years and has a wife, Mary, and two sons, Michael, 13, and Andrew, 12.
“I particularly look forward to writing about the people and places of San Benito County, and reconnecting with the community through my reporting,” said Breen, who will continue to write his Friday column for the Free Lance. Breen also cited the opportunity to work again with Pinnacle Publisher Mark Paxton, who hired Breen as a reporter out of college.
Breen said he welcomes story ideas and encourages people to contact him at The Pinnacle by e-mail at
