Community can help plan a park
A workshop next week will give the public the opportunity to help shape Hollister’s penthouse park.
Vista Park Hill, the small park at the end of Hill Street overlooking downtown Hollister, will be the topic of a community meeting next Thursday, Feb. 12, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hollister City Hall, 375 Fifth St.
“We’re hoping a range of demographics will show up,” said Alison Hobbs of SSA Landscape Architects of Santa Cruz. “We’re hoping for not just the adjacent neighborhood.”
SSA was retained by the city to draw up a master plan. Hobbs said the firm plans three community meetings to solicit guidance. Thursday’s is the first.
The firm will present some preliminary plans based on prior feedback, she said.
“That’s really just a jumping off point to get a conversation started,” she explained.
The firm is working on a tight timeline, and the staff hopes to have a master plan for Vista Park Hill in place in roughly three months.
“Our goal is to create a master plan so the city can go out for funding,” Hobbs said.
The park now includes a play area, ball field, picnic facilities and a barbecue pavilion. But ultimately, it will become what local residents want it to be.
“This park has the potential to reach out to other neighborhoods,” Hobbs said. “For example, people might want trail systems,”
As community input is received SSA will begin to stitch together more detailed plans for the park.
