After a wet winter and spring, Vista Park Hill and Hill Street have eroded and weathered making the road dangerous, but the city staff members are taking steps to help restore the damaged.

The city, using a traffic and congestion relief state fund, will spend $195,000 restoring the drainage system through the area, said project manager Luis Aguilar.

Park Hill rests at a 16 percent slope, so the city will use a special curved drain that will help catch an excess amount of water runoff, Aguilar said. As of right now, the water spreads to the sides of the streets, destroying the roadway.

The new drainage system will push the water to a storm drain on Third Street, Aguilar said. The engineers also plan on putting in a “V- gutter” in the middle of Hill Street that will allow the water to flow to San Benito Street.

The new drain will spread the runoff into two different directions, Aguilar said.
