Joseph Orta graduates basic
Air Force Airman Joseph D. Orta graduated from basic military
training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that
included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force
core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and
skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an
associate in applied science degree through the Community College
of the Air Force.
He is the son of Christy Orta of Mimosa Street, in
Hollister.
Orta graduated in 2010 from San Benito High School.

Student earns $81K in scholarships
Nathan Winn, the son of Michele and Mike Winn, of Hollister is a graduating senior who has been awarded $81,000 in scholarship funds for college.
He is the recipient of $12,800 in locally-awarded college scholarships. Winn, who plans to attend Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo this fall, won the Junior Golf Association of Northern California Scholarship, the AT&T Pebble Beach Junior Golf Association Scholarship, and the Elks National Foundation Legacy Award. In addition, Winn won scholarships from the Salinas Valley Junior Golf Association, the Hollister Rotary Club, and the local Elk’s Lodge.
Winn was accepted to five other California universities before deciding on Cal Poly. In addition to his local winnings, all offered Winn renewable scholarships totaling over $68,000, annually.
Annette Lutnesky Perry, MLS, of Le Librarian College Scholarship Resources and Coaching Services, of Hollister, worked with the Winn family to locate scholarships.
Winn’s total scholarship offers came to $81,000, making him Le Librarian’s largest winner to date.
Le Librarian offers high school seniors and those already in college professional assistance, coaching and editorial services for scholarship competition. Students desiring to compete for the 2011-12 school year are recommended to start this summer.
