Sacred Heart donates to families
Sacred Heart Parish donated gifts to 43 children, ages 6 months to 17 years old, in San Benito County. The gifts were donated by students, parents, faculty and staff of Sacred Heart Parish School. Once again this year, Sacred Heart Parish School participated in the Adopt-a-Family effort that supports families who have completed the qualification process through the Community Workforce and Development Service of San Benito County. The adopt-a-family school-wide effort is one aspect of students embracing Jesus’ command to give of yourself and provide for the poor. During this Advent season, Student Council provided a monetary donation to Fishes & Loaves pantry and collected non-perishable food items for donation during the Christmas programs.

Toy drive gives to needy families
Michelle Rodarte of Mini Max Storage coordinated a toy drive at Mini Max Storage with co-sponsor City Life Christian Center co-hosted Dec. 17., at 330 Tres Pinos Road, Ste. E, in Hollister ,where more than 150 less-fortunate children in Hollister received a brand-new gift for Christmas.
Mini Max Storage, City Life, Hollister Vikings Football and Cheer Team, Dominos Pizza and a handful of Hollister residents donated brand new toys and used coats, shoes and goodies to less-fortunate families in Hollister. The event started with a performance from Camaxtli who was named, “Hollister’s Most Talented 2011” at Hollister’s Got Talent 2011 talent show. These families also participated in raffles where they won gift baskets, but the ultimate raffles were a toddler bike and youth bike that a community member donated.
After the children selected a toy and parents picked out some clothing for the family, the families were able to take a picture with Santa and receive candy bags. Rodarte offered a special thanks to Mini Max Storage, City Life, Dominos Pizza, Camaxtli Torres, all the super heroes, princesses and community members that contributed and helped make this event a success. She also thanked Pastor Kevin Kimura and his wife Sheila Kimura for allowing the group to use their venue for this cause and for all their contributions as well as the Hollister Vikings Football and Cheer Team for being the biggest donor for the 2011 toy give away.

In addition to other donors who were recognized earlier this month for donations to the Hazel Hawkins Hospital Auxiliary’s Bazaar/Luncheon, Carlos Oliveira Painting Company donated $250 to the raffle. Arlene Jenkins, the auxiliary secretary, said she “would like the community to know about this wonderful donation.”
Ford raises money with DriveOne4UrSchool
On Sept. 10, Tiffany Ford – in conjunction with the tremendous help of the Baler Backers Athletic Organization – put together another “DriveOne4UrSchool” event to raise money for San Benito High School.
This is a nationwide program from Ford Motor Company that has raised millions for local high schools throughout the country over the last couple of years.
Bob Tiffany said the September event was the fourth in Hollister for San Benito County and the most successful to date. For each test drive that a family takes, a $20 donation was made to the high school (one donation per household), with up to 300 test drives. This time around, Ford kicked in an additional $10 for each test drive of the brand-new 2012 Ford Focus.
The group did just under 200 test drives in September (within the football parking lot) and raised $5,830 for San Benito High School. Bob Tiffany and John Sanchez presented a check to Tod Thatcher, the school’s athletic director.
Tiffany is hoping to do another test drive fundraiser in Spring 2012.
