Editor,

This note is in response to a letter written by Steve Thomas from San Francisco (“Police Might Be Surprised Who is a Biker – Free Lance Letters Feb. 11). Who really cares how much more money you make than the Hollister Police Department captain, how many cars and motorcycles you have or your education level? Does that make you more important?

I was at the rally and witnessed law enforcement as they stood between the two rival outlaw motorcycle gangs as they exchanged “challenges” and threats of violence. I also witnessed law enforcement interview a young lady after her vendor booth’s bubble machine blew a bubble onto a “1 percenter” and he then felt the need to slap her. This “patched” tough guy ran away through the crowed when she called for help. Law enforcement personnel were thanked every day, all day by numerous people, bikers and non-riders alike for their presence at the rally.

It is a fact that the police were and will continue to be needed at any Hollister Independence Rally.

Mr. Thomas, I probably do make a lot less than you, but I too am college educated, own my home, own three cars (you say you only have two) and an H-D.

The police know what they are doing and have an effective plan to keep the rally safe. If you ever need help when you become a victim, maybe you shouldn’t call the police. Instead call someone who makes as much money as you do and see what service you get.
