Hollister police have arrested an 18-year-old man they allege was caught on surveillance at the local Safeway burglarizing the store.

A San Benito County Probation Department officer contacted the police department identifying Carlos O. Estrada of Hollister as a possible suspect shortly after the agency released photos of him in the store, according to police. Police on Jan. 29 had released the photos showing the suspect at the store Jan. 26 committing burglary.

At 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, a sheriff’s deputy made contact with Estrada near the corner of Fourth and Monterey streets on an unrelated matter, according to police. Hollister Officer Rudy Rodriguez heard the suspect’s name on the police radio and responded. He did additional investigation and arrested Estrada, who was booked into the county jail, according to police.

The Hollister Police Department noted how it wants to thank those who called with information about Estrada and it welcomes information about this or other crimes. Residents wishing to remain anonymous can call WeTIP at (800) 78-CRIME.
