Hollister police have arrested a 19-year-old Hollister man who they allege stabbed a 15-year-old six times in January.
According to police, a “be on the lookout” order had been issued for the suspect. On April 5 at 1:50 a.m., a San Benito County sheriff’s deputy stopped a 1995 Honda Civic at the intersection of Union Road and Glenview Drive that matched the description of the order. After the stop, Hollister police arrived and arrested the suspect, a suspected Sureno gang member, who was identified by an outside witness as being the stabber.
The original crime occurred Jan. 22, when officers arrived at the 1300 block of Westside Boulevard and found a 15-year-old male with several stab wounds to his body. According to the victim, he and a friend had been riding a bicycle on Westside Boulevard when two vehicles carrying about nine people approached and asked to which gang he belonged.
The victim said he was a Norteno and was immediately chased by the two vehicles. They eventually caught him and, he alleged, beat him with a stick or baseball bat and stabbed him six times.
The victim escaped by jumping over a fence to a residence on C Street, where the homeowner called police. He was treated at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital but was later flown by helicopter to a Bay Area hospital where he recovered from his wounds. The victim’s friend escaped without injury.
The case is still under investigation, and other suspects are being sought.
