Hollister police are seeking a man they suspect tried to entice a small child into leaving a park with him March 6, according to a press release from the department.

A report was submitted to police March 6 alleging a 4-year-old child had been playing at a playground with other kids while a sporting event was taking place at Veterans Memorial Park. The child’s mother lost sight of him, but later found the boy near the back of the playground. She reported seeing a white male adult standing near her son at the playground and told police that when she called out to her child, the man allegedly looked down, turned and jogged away northbound through the parking lot, according to police.

The child later reported to his mother that the man had asked several times for the boy to go with him and offered to show the child “his baseball stuff,” the press release states.

The man is described as being middle-aged, white, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and 160 pounds – with thick, wavy, dark blonde, collar-length hair. He was wearing a dark green baseball cap and blue jeans. He is described as unkempt and unshaven, according to police.

The HPD is asking all parents to use due care and vigilance with their children and to report any suspicious activity immediately by calling 911.

Anyone with information on this is asked to call police at (831) 636-4330, or residents can anonymously report crimes by calling WeTip at (800) 78-CRIME.
