Hollister – Hollister police are cautioning residents to keep their doors locked and report any suspicious activity after two women reported incidences of an intruder breaking into their homes Monday.
At 3:45am Monday, a woman home alone in a residence in the 1800 block of Cerra Vista Drive called police after she awoke to a man dressed in all black touching her leg, according to police spokesman George Ramirez. The woman screamed, turned on a light and the man, who could be either white or Hispanic, ran out of the house without taking anything, according to a police statement. The woman told police she had not locked her door.
Later that night at 10:15pm, another woman who was home alone in a residence in the 1300 block of Matador Drive called police after an intruder climbed over a locked gate, entered her garage and tried to open a locked door leading into the house, according to police. The prowler, who didn’t steal anything from her residence, left after the woman called 911, according to the statement.
Ramirez didn’t know if the suspect was aware both women were alone at the time and specifically targeted them for that reason. He also didn’t know if the women knew each other.
All residents are encouraged to lock their doors and windows at all times and be cognizant of their surroundings, he said.
“Even though we’re coming into warmer weather, safety is number one,” Ramirez said.
