Peninsula Pop Warner each year recognizes its top scholar athletes with awards for their scholastic achievements.

This year, three Hollister Vikings, including football player Tyler Biersdorff and cheerleaders Savannah Santos and Shannon Trimble, were named to the Commissioners Honor Society where they placed in the top one percent of all Pop Warner scholar-athletes.

This year, 175 Hollister Vikings received some kind of an award, the third highest total of any association in Northern California. All-conference teams are based on report cards and additional educational activities that a student participates in.

Also this year, 76 Vikings were named as first team scholars, which is equivalent to an A average on their report cards; 57 Vikings made the second team, requiring the equivalent of an A- or B+ average; and 42 others were on the third team, which is the equivalent of a B or B-average.

Additionally, Pop Warner recognizes students who have made All-Conference Scholar for three years with induction into the scholastic Hall of Fame. Fourteen Vikings were inducted into the Hall of Fame this year, including Barbara Jayda Botelho, Antonio Caro, Arielle Chavez, Benjamin Devries, Isabella Fajardo, Nathan Fhurong, Andrea Hernandez, Gabrielle Martin del Campo, John Martinez, Keegan Mottau, Nick Trimble, Bobby Vivian, Tristan Wahl and Dylan Yamasaki.

Furthermore, 27 Viking players received extended Hall of Fame honors for each additional year they make All-Conference Scholar beyond the first three. For Hollister, five athletes have made it for six years, including Austin Ledesma, Christopher Cook, Cody Cameron and Austin and Tyler Tobia. Austin Wahl is the only active Hollister player to have had All-Conference honors seven years in a row.

The Hollister Pop Warner board also wishes to remind the community that if you want to get your child involved in their program for the 2009 season, now is the time to register.

Teams will be formed from those who have registered on or about March 1. Once teams are filled, others will have to be on a wait list. Those who are interested may download the form from their Web site (www.eteamz.com/HollisterPopWarner/) and mail it into the organization.
