My daughter makes me so proud! She is the most loving,
compassionate and sensitive young woman! And she’s raising her
daughter, my granddaughter, in the same manner.
Last week, she and my granddaughter, Madi, were grocery shopping
when she saw an older Hispanic lady in a predicament. Dani went up
to ask her if she needed help. The lady of advanced age responded
that she was worried because she was short a dollar and her husband
was not available
– he had gone to the restroom in the store. My daughter gave the
woman a dollar and she and Madi continued shopping.

Last week, she and my granddaughter, Madi, were grocery shopping when she saw an older Hispanic lady in a predicament. Dani went up to ask her if she needed help. The lady of advanced age responded that she was worried because she was short a dollar and her husband was not available – he had gone to the restroom in the store. My daughter gave the woman a dollar and she and Madi continued shopping.
Well, after paying for the groceries and they were walking to the car, she said the older couple approached her. And in Spanish the lady was telling her husband that this was the young mother who had helped her. The older gentleman wanted to pay back the dollar to Dani, but she would have none of it. She told him it was a gift from her daughter, Madi, because her great grandma was so far away and his wife kind of reminded them of her back in Texas.
Just today, Friday, Nov. 14, my girls were at the Hollister Target store. Dani saw this young man in his mid-30s in the parking lot. His wife and baby were sitting in their car. He had lost his wallet, his car had no gas to make it to Gilroy to take their baby to the doctor and his wife was having an anxiety attack from the stress. He was trying to sell his watch or cell phone so they could at least buy gasoline to go back to Gilroy, but everyone was going by, ignoring him. Guess what? Dani and Madi came to their rescue!
She gave him $5 for the gasoline and waited with the young mother and her baby while he ran with a container to the gas station. He wanted to pay Dani with his watch or cell phone, but she told him she had those two things already. She told me the young man was almost crying with gratitude, that he couldn’t believe that she had taken the time to come to their rescue when no one else did.
Why did she do it? We are by no means “rolling in money,” even with both of us working. So, why? My daughter, Dani, remembers a time not so long ago we needed a helping hand like the older couple in the store and the young family in the Target parking lot and we didn’t get the help we so desperately needed. Dani told me that maybe someday, somewhere, someone will extend to us that helping hand when we least expect it. And if it didn’t happen, it was all right because what little she has, she can share with others less fortunate.
My girls are my pride and joy and they make me very proud!
