For at least the past 29 years, the city has leased San Benito High School’s aquatics facility so it can offer programs to the general public. Hollister’s City Council last week approved a contract to once again run the summer aquatics program for a six-week period.

The city’s summer program includes swim lessons and recreational swim. In 2010, the city’s recreation division provided swim instruction for 536 people, and another 1,227 took part in recreational swimming, according to a city staff report.

The hourly rental fee for the city increased from $55 per hour in the 2010 season to $65 per hour for 2011, with an estimated total cost of $13,000. During the 2010 season, the city collected $33,161 in revenue. The rental fee is for maintenance, chemicals, utilities and use of locker rooms.

The programs start at the high school Monday. For more information call 636-4390.
