Park opening delayed due to water project

prospective park under development on the city’s west side. The
Riverside/Brigantino Parkway project along San Juan Road near the
sewer plant is being developed as a home base for the city’s
reclaimed water project, and officials have slowed the development
process in order for parks officials to do some master planning,
said City Manager Clint Quilter.

The Riverside/Brigantino Parkway project along San Juan Road near the sewer plant is being developed as a home base for the city’s reclaimed water project, and officials have slowed the development process in order for parks officials to do some master planning, said City Manager Clint Quilter.
There are long-term plans to use the park for traditional recreation activities, but it also needs to be maintained for the reclaimed water. There are strict rules for how the water can be used, and the process involves “pretty scientific monitoring,” Quilter said.
The city and county parks commissions have appointed an ad hoc committee to oversee a longer-term master plan. Quilter said there are plans to open the unnamed park to the public around July, but it will not include organized activities at the outset until there are other sources for the reclaimed water and the city has “less necessity to have that facility” at the parkway.
