Crumbling roadways unsafe
Lone Tree Road is on the outskirts of San Benito County and it
is one of the roads less traveled. Still it is one byway in the
county where the pavement is so damaged and marked with potholes
that it is hardly safe for vehicles. On the south side of the road,
the land dives off into a steep slope and there is no guardrail
where the road is uneven. The condition of the road has
deteriorated to the point that a Pinnacle reader wrote, asking if
something could be done.

San Benito County Public Works employees are responsible for maintaining 385 miles of roadway. Maintenance work includes everything from repairing potholes and sealing cracks, paving, maintenance of road signs and markings, shoulder grading and repair of washed out roads in storms, earthquakes and other natural disasters. For residents unsure if a road is in the jurisidiction of the county or one of the local cities, they can check a list online at www.san-benito.ca.us/departments/dpw/county_roads.htm.

To notify the office, which is part of the Public Works department managed by Director Jerry Lo, of needed road repairs, call 636-4170 or e-mail [email protected].
