Crews playing catch up with leaves after rain
It’s that time of year when the leaves fall off the trees and
leave a mess for many citizens to clean up. Residents can leave
their piles of leaves near the curb, and city crews come by to pick
them up. Those crews, however, are playing catch up due to the rain
that left them working on other duties such as cleaning out catch
basins, said Julian Gaytan, a streets official with the city.

Streets department crews go out this time of year and pick up the leaves. It happens each week a day before the sweeper comes by. If the sweeper’s out Tuesday, they pick up Monday. If it’s out Monday, they pick up Friday, Gaytan said.
Residents merely have to leave the leaf piles next to the curb. They cannot, however, be bagged or the city won’t pick them up. Gaytan also suggested that residents place the piles in rows because it makes it easier for the giant, three-foot vacuum to capture them.
