It’s nearly time for the 4th of July motorcycle rally.
Thousands of motorcycles from all over will arrive in our small town. The Hells Angels, Mongols and many other motorcycle clubs will arrive along with thousands of independent riders coming here to enjoy the weekend. It is said that there is a solid profit for the community in which many businesses will sell their services. Thousands of gallons of beer, gasoline, meals and many other items will be sold. There is always the possibility that this will be the year that the opposing motorcycle clubs will erupt in gang-type warfare as they compete to establish themselves in our community with the various business activities that they have become famous for. Many motorcycle riders will be arrested for drunk driving while many will escape prosecution. Our local law enforcement agencies can be counted on to work long hours providing as safe an environment as possible. Nobody can deny that they do a wonderful job. Thank you for your protection and dedication.
When I think back before the rally, my family and myself along with hundreds of other members of our community used to go to the high school and watch a wonderful 4th of July fireworks display. We would then go home for a family barbecue and celebration at our homes. We no longer enjoy the 4th of July in that manner. Instead, many of us stay at home the entire weekend or leave town. Hollister has changed a lot in the years that I have lived here. It seems it is moving rather quickly from a family environment to something else.
