I really take exception to the editorial column by Molly Ivins
on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
It was the usual pseudo intellectual,

we told you so

stuff that we have come to expect from the liberal media. It was
especially disturbing coming the day before the second anniversary
of 9/11!
What really set me off was her comment that our troops are

over there staked out like goats in the desert.

I’m sure that any goat would appreciate the addition of an M-16,
240 rounds of 5.56 ball, a bayonet and a couple of fragmentation
grenades, Kevlar helmet and body armor!

It certainly would give the lion pause to reconsider! Our troops are well trained and dedicated. They are led by well trained and dedicated officers. This comment does them all an injustice. Yes, they are vulnerable, but that’s why they call it “war.”

This is a war of the 21st century. It is not your father’s war. It is a new century and the style of warfare has changed. Stability operations are difficult and tedious, not to mention dangerous. They are not the classic infantry clash we are all familiar with. Get used to it, it isn’t going to go away any time soon.

It was John F. Kennedy that said we would “go anywhere, fight any foe.” Let’s live up to his legacy.

Reasonable debate on the issues is the cornerstone of democracy, but this “in your face,” vindictive, attack-dog style is a pathetic excuse for journalism.
