San Benito Street is closed for repair.

Downtown Hollister had another water main break that is causing traffic detours, this time on San Benito Street near the 7-11.

The main break occurred early in the week south of Haydon Street on San Benito Street. As of about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, the water service was back on, while public works employees continued backfilling the hole into the afternoon. The city, meanwhile, set up a detour for affected drivers.

It comes after the most recent main breaks to the downtown area system in early February – residents and businesses have become somewhat accustomed to them in recent years – on Fourth Street near the sheriff’s administration building and also on Madera Court.

Public works utilities official Jim Hart said workers will have the work done before the week is up.
