Government officials have scheduled a ceremony to celebrate the San Juan Interchange project near the Red Barn, according to Caltrans.
According to a Caltrans announcement:
A ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the San Juan Road Interchange Project will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2015. Elected officials, community members and representatives from the Transportation Agency for Monterey County, Caltrans, Granite Construction and MCM Construction will gather at the corner of San Juan Road and the new frontage road to celebrate the occasion. To reach the site of the ribbon-cutting ceremony, take the San Juan Road exit off Highway 101; and turn right from the north bound exit or turn left from the south bound exit towards the retaining wall near the frontage road.
This $69 million project, which straddles Monterey and San Benito Counties and is commonly referred to as the “Red Barn” interchange project, began on December 15, 2012. Designed to address safety and operational concerns, it removed at-grade crossing at three major intersections at San Juan Road, Dunbarton Road and Cole Road along Highway 101. These intersections were replaced with a single interchange at San Juan Road and Highway 101. The completion of the new interchange improves safety and reduces congestion by removing the choke points that regularly occurred along the highway at these intersections. The interchange now provides better access to and from the highway. It also helps facilitate the movement of goods and improves regional and interregional mobility.
