Hollister – Congressman Sam Farr will be on hand Wednesday night to answer residents’ questions about anything from the war in Iraq to Medicare, and everything in between.

Farr will be hosting his annual Town Hall meeting at the City Council Chambers from 6:30 to 8:30pm, and will hold a press conference at the Farmer’s Market in conjunction with the Nutrition and Fitness Collaboration of the Central Coast from 3:30 to 4pm.

Farr will be discussing the importance of nutrition education for children during the press conference.

The Town Hall meeting is a chance to inform the citizens in his district of the most recent congressional happenings, and to be informed of the issues in San Benito County, said spokeswoman Jessica Schafer.

“He gets a lot of letters, a lot of phone calls, but this is his chance to be in an open forum to discuss any big political ideas,” Schafer said. “He likes to connect on a personal level.”

Farr will start off the meeting with an update on the recent congressional session and other legislative work that he’s been involved in, Schafer said.

After that, he will open it up to comments and questions from those who attend, she said.

Residents may come with specific questions in mind, or ask questions on issues brought up during the meeting, Schafer said.

“This is an invaluable opportunity to participate in the democratic process,” she said. “Here’s your chance. Sam’s in the room for two hours, and he’s there for you.”
