A fire occurred just south of Highway 156 on Wednesday afternoon, while crews contained it before the blaze damaged nearby homes.
The fire, with an unknown cause that is under investigation, was reported at 2:42 p.m. near Washington and Lang streets on the south end of San Juan Bautista, said Calfire Capt. Dan Westbrook.
The grass fire did initially burn parts of some structures, but was controlled quickly, he said, adding he believed the structures were sheds.
Firefighters had the 15-acre blaze contained by 5:31 p.m. and completely controlled by 8:30 p.m., he said.
Calfire had an air attack unit, two air tankers and other ground crews from stations to the south, while San Juan Bautista fire, San Benito County fire and Hollister fire responded as well.
