A San Juan Bautista man accepted a plea deal for practicing medicine without a license and assault with a deadly weapon, and received a penalty encompassing 285 days of time served along with felony probation, according to court records.
The district attorney’s office last August charged Slave Petkovski on suspicion of practicing medicine without a license and assault with a deadly weapon charges, according to records.
In total, there were 11 felony charges at the outset. With the plea deal officially reached Jan. 21, prosecutors and Petkovski agreed to drop nine of those counts, according to records.
Petkovski was incarcerated at the San Benito County Jail from Sept. 1 of last year until Jan. 21, said Lt. Edward Escamilla, the jail commander.
On Thursday, Judge Steven Sanders handed down the sentence for Petkovski on the two guilty charges, according to records. He received the sentence of 285 days in county jail, and court records indicate it equaled the amount of time served by Petkovski. His probation is for three years.
Petkovski ran a massage therapy business at 301 The Alameda in San Juan Bautista.
The district attorney’s office, which charged Petkovski in late August of 2015, initially alleged six counts of practicing medicine without a license between May 2013 and April 2014, according to court records.
Petkovski is set to appear in court 11 a.m. March 30 for a restitution claim hearing, according to records. He is represented by public defender Gregory LaForge. Deputy District Attorney Steve Schilling prosecuted the case. Neither could be reached immediately Friday.
