Although there isn’t too much hillside land in San Juan Bautista, Mission City government officials are looking at establishing hillside development restrictions.
The issue has been before city officials for two to three years, and the planning commission is wrapping up its examination. City Manager Roger Grimsley said there are just about 20 to 25 acres of hillside land in the city. That’s in an area south of Lausen Drive and Washington Street, he said.
“We wanted to make sure that we have the necessary tools to address it, when it does occur,” Grimsley said.
Grimsley said the San Juan hillside ordinance, which could go before council members Oct. 20, is meant to resemble the county’s own hillside ordinance.
“Anytime you have steep slopes, we would evaluate the steep slopes and viewshed, make sure the soil conditions and geological criteria can support it,’ Grimsley said.
