San Benito County’s unemployment rate is almost on par with the state figure, with 12.5 percent of the local workforce out of jobs, according to data released today.

The California Economic Development Department announced that the state unemployment rate had increased in August from 11.9 percent the prior month to 12.2 percent, with a decline of 12,300 non-farm payroll jobs during that time.

In San Benito County, the rate was 12.5 percent, as 3,100 people here were unemployed in August. The local unemployment rate, not adjusted for seasonal employment, has been as high as 15 percent this year.
