San Benito High School District trustees on Monday appointed former board member Steve Delay to succeed Tim Shellito, who announced his resignation in March.

Shellito announced his resignation at a March board meeting and cited personal reasons. Trustees on Monday voted unanimously to appoint Delay – who took fourth place in November 2010 as an incumbent trustee in a five-person race for three open seats.

Shellito captured his seat by taking third in the November 2010 race. Before that, Shellito had served as an educator at the district for more than 30 years.

The board had voted to appoint someone to the seat until November,  when there will be an election to serve out the remainder of the term, two more years.

Two other seats are open in this year’s election – those of Evelyn Muro and Raymond Rodriguez.
