Students eagerly lined up last Saturday morning for their sixth
day of school in a week, where they were able to create miniature
race cars, extract strawberry DNA, dissect cows’ eyeballs, and
participate in many other science-related activities. For many, it
was their first time to walk the grounds of a college campus.

Students eagerly lined up last Saturday morning for their sixth day of school in a week, where they were able to create miniature race cars, extract strawberry DNA, dissect cows’ eyeballs, and participate in many other science-related activities. For many, it was their first time to walk the grounds of a college campus.

Nearly 300 local and bay area middle school students and 50 of their parents attended Gavilan Community College’s explosive workshops February 2 in Gilroy. A diverse group of leading professionals, cutting edge researchers and university professors instructed the unique workshops, giving students a taste of their science-based careers.

After seven successful years, science is still alive at Gavilan College.
