Anthony Vitto

Anthony Vitto, M.D., Ph.D., FAAN, a practicing neurologist from Gilroy, was recently elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology – the highest level of membership in the Academy. It is awarded to relatively few neurologists who have demonstrated achievements in both academic and community practice.

Evan J. Arnold

Navy Fireman Evan J. Arnold, son of Susan M. Arnold of Garden Grove, Calif. and Johnnie J. Arnold, Jr of Morgan Hill, Calif., and his shipmates made a port visit to Sydney, Australia while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan.

On the first day of the visit, Arnold’s ship hosted a reception for more than 1, 000 Australian dignitaries and conducted tours for more than 3,000 guests.

Also drawing the interest of both Sailors and local Australians was the Hospitality-in-the-Homes program, sponsored by Kitty Hawk’s religious ministries department, in which local Sydney families hosted sailors in their homes for a meal.

USS Kitty Hawk is the first of the “super carriers, ” commissioned April 29, 1961. They serve as a highly visible deterrent to would-be aggressors, and are equipped with the most versatile and powerful weapons and aircraft available.

Brandin W. Foreman

Navy Hospitalman Brandin W. Foreman, son of Darin W. Foreman of Gilroy, Calif., recently reported for duty at Naval Hospital, Lemoore, Calif. Foreman is a 2002 graduate of Gilroy High School joined the Navy in June 2004.

Births

Aaron Joseph Dutra

Aaron Joseph Dutra was born July 10 to Lucille May Silva Dutra and Paul Anthony Dutra of Gilroy at St. Louise Hospital. He weighed 8 lbs at birth.

Miah Rose Lugo

Miah Rose Jugo was born June 4 to Julie and Genaro Lugo at Santa Teresa Hospital. She weighted 7 pounds, 14 ounces.

Engagements

Mello-Mackley

Henry “Hap” and Rita Mello of Hollister are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Melissa Mello to Timothy Mackley, the son of David Mackley of Modesto and Judy and Bob Gall of Lincoln.

Melissa is employed as a legal assistant at a Los Angeles law firm. Timothy is currently serving with the United States Air Force as an Officer Recruiter in Santa Monica, Calif.

The couple became engaged on Nov. 8, 2004, in Santa Cruz and will marry in the late Winter of 2005-06.

Hammond-Wagner

Ralph and Gale Hammond of Morgan Hill happily announce the engagement of their daughter, Alyssa Jane Hammond, to Robert Louis Wagner, son of Lou and Corinne Wagner of Los Altos.

The bride-to-be is a 1998 Live Oak graduate. She attended Cuesta Community College in San Luis Obispo and finished her degree in Business at San Jose State University. Alyssa is currently a senior recruiting programs analyst at Openwave Systems in Redwood City.

The groom-to-be graduated from St. Francis High School in 1993 and holds BS degrees in finance and computer engineering with a minor in electrical engineering, both from Santa Clara University. Rob is a graduate student at Santa Clara and will receive a Master’s in computer engineering with an emphasis in software engineering in 2006. Rob is currently a QA Software Engineer at eBay in San Jose.

Rob and Alyssa will marry on Sept. 9, 2006, at the Highlands Inn in Carmel.

Wilde-Smith

Ron and Deanna Wilde of Pendleton, Ore., are happy to announce the engagement of their daughter, Melissa Beth Wilde, to Brendan Howard Smith, son of Quentin and Nancy Smith of San Jose.

The bride-to-be is a 1999 graduate of Pendleton High School in Pendleton, Ore. She graduated Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Ida., in 2003 with a BA in public communications. Melissa currently is employed with Calico Country Florist in Pendleton.

The groom-to-be is a 1998 graduate of Live Oak. He graduated from Northwest Nazarene University in 2003 with a BA in applied studies. Brendan currently is employed with the Pepsi Bottling Co. in Pendleton.

Brendan and Melissa will marry Aug. 27 at the Fairview Church of the Nazarene in Nampa, Ida.

King-Herceg

Donna Aceves and Bob King are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Melissa King to Garry Herceg, son of Dorothy and Garry Herceg. Melissa is a 1992 graduate of Gilroy High School and a 1996 graduate of Fresno State University. In 1998, she graduated from San Jose State University with a master’s degree in social work. She is currently employed by Santa Cruz County, where she is a supervisor for Child Protective Services.

Garry graduated from San Lorenzo Valley High School in 1986 and San Jose State in 1993. He is currently employed by Santa Cruz County as a supervisor for the probation department.

The couple met at a county training and became engaged Christmas morning when Garry snuck a ring into Melissa’s

Christmas stocking.. They will be living in Aromas.
