I for one am very happy to see something done to improve the
conditions of the animal shelter. This is one of the most positive
things local government has done lately.
Animals have no voice and depend on humans for every need.
People have the ability to help themselves if they choose to do so.
Thoughtless and careless humans put animals in the position of
needing the services of Animal control and rescue groups to begin
with.

Too many animals are left to stray, abandoned, abused, and overbred by humans. That is why animal shelters are necessary.

The writer protesting the new animal shelter surely has never visited an animal shelter. I suggest they do and take a good look around. Would the writer rather have an overpopulation of sick and unneutered cats and dogs running through town and digging through garbage cans, breeding unabated?

I do not want to sound heartless in regard to the homeless human situation in our nation either. I have been involved in many charities dedicated to helping the poor. Most homeless humans choose to be homeless and refuse help when offered. Some are mentally ill and should be in an institution.

I agree there are legitimate cases for truly needy homeless humans and there are agencies to assist them.

The bottom line is that there is plenty of money out there for the homeless. For animals and families in need there is not.

Let’s not put in the new animal shelter and instead open up our community to the transients so we can end up like Santa Cruz where the transients urinate in the streets without repercussion and harass the tax paying citizens. So, I suggest that the person who wrote this uneducated statement protesting the new animal shelter in the Citizens Voice on Nov 4, go to Santa Cruz and see how it’s working out for them with the human shelters.
