Salinas scored three times before San Benito got on the scoreboard on Tuesday, and the visiting Cowboys avenged January’s loss to the Balers with a 3-1 victory in Tri-County Athletic League play.

San Benito’s Ivan Martinez pocketed the team’s lone goal with about five minutes remaining in the game, but Salinas already had a three-goal lead, which proved to be too much to overcome late in the game.

Salinas controlled a 2-0 lead at halftime.

“They pretty much beat us to all the free balls,” San Benito interim coach Matt Andrade said. “They controlled the middle and today wasn’t a very good day for our team.”

The Balers, who are now 3-7-1 in the TCAL and 6-11-1 overall, previously defeated Salinas 3-2 on Jan. 21.

San Benito will wrap up its season on Thursday when it will host Gilroy at 3:30 p.m.
