It only lasted a few minutes, but sure enough, there was some snow hitting the ground in Hollister over the weekend.

Snow fell in certain parts of Hollister for several minutes Saturday afternoon, shortly after 2 p.m. The rare sight in the city, which is at about 500 feet above sea level, occursrarely and there can be many years in between its presence here.

Hollister resident Ruth Erickson lives on Albright Drive. She noted how it started hailing at her house and that it soon became snow.

“We’re on a very slight slope – we had snow,” Erickson said. “My son was on the phone with his friends, ‘Guess what? It’s snowing.'”

Erickson said it lasted only about five minutes where she lives, while other areas of town didn’t see any.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service had said it was possible, but unlikely. The cold weather came down from an Alaskan front that has been slowly creeping south, through Oregon and Northern California the past week.
