Where did the warm weather go in South County
I hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend. The weather
sure didn’t cooperate much Saturday and Sunday, but Monday turned
out to be quite nice. The traffic was not bad either. At least
there is one positive to the gas prices these days. There was
hardly any traffic on Hwy. 25 over the weekend, and Hwy. 101 was
pretty quiet as well.

The weather has sure been crazy lately. The wind storms last week were terrible. My sister, who lives in Oakland, was in town the other day to teach a unit of art to the kids at Bitterwater School. Afterwards, we left her car at the school while we went to Soledad to watch Buddy’s baseball game. We hadn’t even reached town yet when Mrs. Brewen called us on the cell phone to tell us that a tree had blown over at the school yard and landed on my sister’s car!
Amazingly tough, it was more superficial damage than anything else. Todd and Johnny Joe Maggini had to use chain saws to cut the tree off of the car. Thank goodness there were no kids playing near the tree when it blew over. I can’t believe it was over 100 degrees at the fair a few weeks ago and then we’re all bundled up and trying to stay warm the next week. Hopefully the summer weather will arrive soon.
Birthday wishes go out to Jo Ellen Johnsen, who celebrated her 14th birthday last Saturday and to Lynette Hurley, who celebrated Monday. John Flook is home from the hospital and recovering from his injuries.
The eighth grade students from Bitterwater Tully School spent a few days down in Southern California last week for their eighth grade field trip. Those attending the trip included Jeanine Madson, Edwin Mendoza, Marissa Donovan, Logan Brimmage and chaperones Marianne Madson and teacher Tim Williams. They left Monday morning and arrived in Los Angeles early in the afternoon. After checking into the hotel, they relaxed and swam a bit before heading off to a Dodger game that night. On Tuesday, they spent the day at Universal Studios, and then spent half of Wednesday at Magic Mountain before heading home that afternoon. Jeanine and Edwin agreed the Dodger game was the best part. The kids will graduate Friday, June 13.
Jeff, Shari and Melissa Popnoe were in town over Memorial Day weekend visiting Shari’s folks, Jeff and Jean Schmidt. They came to pick up Melissa’s horses to take home to Truckee for the summer. Bob Schmidt and Maggie came for a quick visit last weekend as well.
Bitterwater Tully School hosted a “Kindergarten Day” last Friday at the school. Several of next year’s kindergarten students spent the day at the school to see what it will be like next year. Mrs. Brewen sent each of the kids home with a bag of goodies to get them ready for next year.
Have a great week, and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at
