Baseball continues in South County
I hope you all had a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July weekend. The weather cooperated nicely as it was warm and comfortable all weekend, although this week has been a hot one!
King City residents enjoyed the annual Fourth of July parade down Broadway last Friday. One of the highlights of the parade was the very last entry, Nessen Schmidt and his pack mules. Nessen isn’t one who wants to miss out on taking part in a parade; he even took part in the grand entry parade during the Saddle Horse Show and Rodeo last weekend at Bolado Park! Apparently his entry in the Fourth of July parade was one of his classics. As the last entry, he was followed by the King City Police bringing up the end of the parade. Nessen rode horseback, leading two pack mules, one carrying an 18-pack of Coors Regular and the little donkey carrying an 18-pack of Coors Light, followed by the police car on his tail. Betsy Roth was quick to tell him it wasn’t the first and probably wouldn’t be the last time that he’s had a cop on his “_ss” and wouldn’t pull over!
Later in the evening, Andy and Tamra Barrington hosted a swim party and barbecue at their house. Some of those stopping by included the Hurley family, the Garza family, the Sans family, Valerie and Kenny Reed, Jessika Willoughby, Vern and Jo Ann Scattini and Nessen Schmidt. John Brewen and Lou Harbin also had a Fourth of July get-together and some of those stopping by the shop included the Fabin family, John Nino, J.W. and Candace Brewen and their girls and Charlotte and Esther Cabral.
The King City Little League and Pony League All-Star season is in full swing. Just when you think it’s over, the team wins again and it starts all over again! Some of those playing from South County include Mason Rianda, Tucker Bennett, Tate Kelly, Wacey Barrington and Buddy and Brody Sans. Congratulations to Allen Umbarger and his Pony All-Stars as they are once again winning enough games to qualify for a second round of tournament competition. We spent several days last week in Santa Cruz at the sectional tournament and will be moving on the regional tournament this week in Campbell.
Allen’s got a talented group of kids who love to play baseball. Winning pitchers for the team include Tyler Salcido, Gilbert Camacho and Kris Flores while Buddy Sans has been the closer for each game. Good luck to the boys this week; if they win here, the next stop is Fullerton!
