Greetings from Gallup, where local kids are representing CA
District 4
Greetings from New Mexico! The weather has been great and in
rodeo even better. We’re having an awesome time, even though we did
have to miss the San Benito Saddle Horse Show and Rodeo!
We left last Thursday and spent two nights in Williams, Ariz.
While there, we spent a day at the Grand Canyon, which none of us
had ever been to. It was a site to see and we thoroughly enjoyed
our time there. The following day as we headed east to Gallup, New
Mexico, we stopped off at the Walnut Canyon National Monument.
That, too, was beautiful. We saw some amazing old Indian cliff
dwellings and walked so far my calves were killing me! We got some
great pictures of the Grand Canyon and Walnut Canyon.

After Walnut Canyon we headed off for our week long-adventure in Gallup. California is reperesented well here, as it was last year. Kristy Melton represented CA Dist 4 last year, and this year we have Cheyenne Rey, Brody Sans and Clayton Bacon representing CA District 4. So far, Cheyenne is sitting seventh in the girls goat tying and in the middle of the pack in the barrel race. Brody rode his first bull today and is currently seventh in the bulls as well. The bulls are really rank here and so far the bulls are ahead. Out of 75 rides so far, only nine have been ridden, Brody being one of them. Whew, one down, two more to go! Clayton hasn’t competed in any of his events yet as he drew up later in the week.

Brody and Cheyenne are in good positions going into their second go rounds, so everyone keep your fingers crossed that they keep on doing well!

I heard that it was another successful saddle horse show and rodeo last weekend. Congratulations to John Flook for winning the saddle bronc riding, wild horse race and the all-around title. Way to keep it in South County, John! Congrats also to Mitch Bourdet and Carlos Castillo for winning the team roping, and to Lacey Bourdet and Nick Taliaferro for winning the family team roping. Taylor Jo Hurley won the junior barrel race and Mikael Enz won the steer stopping. That’s all the results I got while up here in Gallup. When you have team ropers and barrel racers in the family, those are the only results I get! Congrats to everyone who competed there. We’ll be back next year for sure.

Have a great Fourth of July weekend and if you have any news you’d like to share, be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected].
