Salinas Rodeo draws South County participants to 101st annual
event
Are you ready for some football? Finally, the NFL lockout is
over! Hooray. Now I can start planning my fantasy football team for
this year. I am definitely ready for some football! Now, if only
Congress could follow in the footsteps of the NFL and settle the
debt ceiling limit. I was getting to the point of boycotting the
NFL if they couldn’t settle their affairs. I wonder if I could
boycott the government if they can’t settle theirs. If they keep
acting like a bunch of little kids fighting on a school yard, I
think we should all boycott the government!

The 101st Annual Salinas Rodeo was held last week in Salinas with many South County folks attending or participating. Congratulations go out to Ryle Smith, nephew of Ross and Marlene Rianda, for winning the prestigious All-Around title last week. That is quite an honor for such a young man. John Donati and Allan Renz were the second place winners in the Wild Cow Milking, while Matt Hearne and John Rianda qualified for the short go in the Wild Cow Milking as well. Cynthia Fancher was one of many South County residents who entered the barrel race there and Elliott French was entered in the bronc riding.
The PBR Touring Pro event that was held last Wednesday boasted record crowds for the bull riding event. Brendon Clark represented South County in the event while Cash Robinson, Brody Sans, Gerardo Ruiz, Clayton Biglow and Clayton Brum were entered in the junior bull riding. It was quite an experience for the boys to be able to ride alongside the pros in front of a crowd of more than 8,000 people. The boys all did amazingly well and had a great time too.
Congratulations to former South County resident Rod Hall, son of Amy Lou Schmidt-Hall for his new position as the state veterinarian for the State of Oklahoma. Rod has many ties to South County as many of his family members still resides in the King City area.
