A busy week in South County
Whew, it was a busy week last week in South County so there’s
lots of news to report on this week! Seems like everyone had
something going on last week.
First and foremost, condolences go out to the Stadtler Family on
the loss of the legendary Phil Stadtler. Phil passed away last week
at the age of 91. Phil had a long, historical life, one that you
can even read about in his own autobiography. He will be missed by
many but never forgotten.

Whew, it was a busy week last week in South County so there’s lots of news to report on this week! Seems like everyone had something going on last week.

First and foremost, condolences go out to the Stadtler Family on the loss of the legendary Phil Stadtler. Phil passed away last week at the age of 91. Phil had a long, historical life, one that you can even read about in his own autobiography. He will be missed by many but never forgotten.

March must be some sort of baby boomer month as there have been lots of birthdays to write about all month. Celebrating birthdays last week included Nicole Nelson, Danielle Craig, Les Sans and Nessen Schmidt. Nessen celebrated the big 6-0 last week and he celebrated in style as his kids and Val Bassetti hosted a huge birthday party for him at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds last Saturday evening. Leave it to Nessen to arrive in style as he entered the Orradre Building a top his favorite horse (we’re not so sure how the fairgrounds management liked the entrance)! There were more than 400 people in attendance at the party, which featured a live band, food and drink. Folks came from as far away as Arizona to help Nessen celebrate his big day. He had a big party for his 50th and a bigger one for his 60th. Who knows what he’ll do for his 70th! It was a great party that was definitely enjoyed by many.

Jeff and Jean Schmidt had an unfortunate event take place last Saturday evening as Uncle Jeff’s woodshop burned to the ground. Anyone who knows Uncle Jeff knows how much time he spent in that woodshop and how much he enjoyed woodworking. Jeff has spent countless hours in there creating one-of-a-kind gifts for family and friends and many more hours working with the Bitterwater 4-H Club woodworking members. Not only did he lose all of his tools and equipment, but lots of 4-H Club projects as well. It was a sad sight to see on my Monday morning bus run. They think the cause of the fire may have been some smoldering wood shavings from a project he had been working on earlier in the day, but they’re not quite sure.

Baseball season is almost here and many folks have been spending time in Arizona taking in some Spring Training action. My folks spent a few days there last week taking in a few ball games and a round of PBR action as well. They had a great time watching the Giants and seeing their first Built Ford Tough PBR as well. Hollister resident and PBR great Brendon Clark took in a Spring Training game while in Glendale for the PBR last week as well.

Hope you all remembered to move your clocks forward last week. This is a tough one to get used to but we do enjoy the longer days. Have a great week and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected] with any news you’d like to share.
