Well, South County, are you ready for some football? I sure am!
Last weekend was a great weekend of preseason football. I love
watching the Hall of Fame inductions, the speeches given by those
big, tough football players are always so emotional and moving. My
favorite this year was Rayfield Wright and Sarah White. After the
inductions on Saturday, and the Hall of Fame game on Sunday, I’m
really itching for the real season to get underway. Only four more
weeks to go, Go Broncos!

The Mid-State Fair down in Paso Robles came to an end last weekend. Many South County residents participated in the Ranch Rodeo over the weekend. Some of those participating included: J.W. Brewen, Andy and Mattie Barrington, Hec and Kasey Hurley, Sandy Silva and Twain Stockdale. Taylor, Twyster and even little Tatum Hurley participated in the gymkhana on Friday.
Birthday wishes go out to Virginia O’Connor who celebrated her birthday on Aug. 6. She celebrated by having dinner with her family.
The King City High School volleyball, football and softball teams hosted a fundraiser, reverse draw dinner last Friday night at the school. A lot of money was raised during the delicious dinner that was prepared by the Knights of Columbus. Some of those attending the dinner included John, Marianne, Caroline, Natalie and Jeanine Madson, John Brewen and Lou Harbin and Gregg, Sami Jo, Gregg and Jo Ellen Johnsen.
Katie Donham hosted a summer get together last week for her and some of her girlfriends. Spending the evening swimming, fishing and staying up all night included Katie, Jeanine and Natalie Madson and Sierra Jo Sans.
My kids and I spent last Monday at Great America in Santa Clara with my sister and her kids. The weather was great and the lines were short! We had a great time and I would definitely recommend going on a Monday – no lines.
On Saturday evening, the kids headed up to San Francisco to take in the Giants vs. Rockies game with my parents and my sister and her family. My brother-in-law had tickets to the luxury boxes so they got to see the game in style. They had a great time and said they were the best seats they’ve ever had.
This weekend is going to be a busy one. Buck season opens on Saturday, and I’m sure many of you already have your bucks picked out. Also on Saturday, Bill and Robin Rist and their ministry, Brushed Up Ministries, will be hosting their second annual Family Fun Day at the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds. They will have three drawpot ropings, a barrel race, boot race and stick race. Christian Country Singer of the Year Mike Hammock of Nacadoches, Texas, will be singing after lunch. The entire day is free, no entry fees, no lunch fees, no concert fees. Awards will be given for each event and they are really nice. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. For more information, contact Bill or Robin Rist.
The King City Riding Club will be hosting their monthly gymkhana on Sunday at the fairgrounds as well. Sign-ups at 8 a.m., run at 9 a.m.
Until next week, good luck opening weekend, and, if you have any big buck news you’d like to share, be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at
