Summer is in full swing out here in South County.  The weather has been great and folks are keeping busy with plenty to do.

It may be hot in our part of the country, but our heat doesn’t even begin to compare with the heat that South County ballplayers faced in Arizona last week.  Rory Johnsen, Shane O’Connor and Jimmy Barbree spent the week playing baseball in 120 degree weather in Suprise, Ariz.  They said the morning games weren’t too bad, but the afternoon games were hot!  The boys played on a team based out of Cupertino and they played against 72 other teams representing the West Coast.  Out of those 72 teams, 32 kids were chosen to represent the West Coast in Venezuela at the Junior Olympics.  None of our three boys were selected, but that doesn’t mean our boys aren’t talented.  They wouldn’t even have been chosen to go to Arizona if they weren’t some of the best out here.  According to Shane’s Mom Cynnie, they boys had a great time and it was quite an experience.  Making a family vacation out of the trip included Cynnie and Kassie O’Connor, Gregg, Sami, Jo Ellen and Cindy Johnsen and Mike and Sarah Barbree.

The King City High School Lady Mustangs Basketball team headed to Reno last weekend to play in a tournament.  They played against some really top-notch teams and had a great experience. Some of those participating included:  Mackie Bailey, Katie Harris, Annie Nino, Caroline and Natalie Madson and Sierra Jo Sans.

Congratulations to Vern Scattini’s son Todd Scattini on his recent graduation from the Monterey Defense Language Institute.  Todd graduated with a master’s degree in national security affairs.  He and his wife Robin, and son Jack will be heading off to Belgium later this year.  Attending the graduation included Vern, Jeff and Jean Schmidt and Sami Jo and Jo Ellen Johnsen.

Hope you all had a safe and Happy 4th of July and if you have any news you’d like to share, be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at
