Fair week and Mothers Day – whew!

Whew, what a busy time of year, fair week is finally upon us and everyone is busy with last minute fair preparations.

I barely made my deadline for this column due to last minute details for the fair.

Despite all the fair business, I do hope that all you Moms out there had a wonderful Mothers Day! We, along with every other fair Mom spent the day getting animals and pens ready for the fair. Our fair sure didn’t work out our dates right as we end up at the fairgrounds every single Mother’s Day. Oh well, no complaints, the kids are only here for a short time, then, they will have their own kids and their own Mother’s Day to spend at the fair!

Linda Selleck called me the other day with news of their annual barbecue at the Selleck Ranch. The barbecue was held on May 5 and they had over 50 people, friends and relatives in attendance. The barbecue was hosted by Linda and her sister and brother-in-law, Nadine and Jim Ivens and their family from Los Angeles. Some of those attending this year’s barbecue included: Johnny Joe and Darlene Maggini, Jeff and Jean Schmidt, Jim Smith, Chris Schmidt, Donna and Laurence Hansen, Alberta Rist, Nancy Scolari, Janet Oswald, Ruth Records, Roberta Oswald, The Will Selleck Family from Napa, Vern Scattini, Cheri Hartschorn and her family from Fresno, Kathy DeAlvares-Stewart, Dick Cooms, Bill Griffith, The Bill Kiff Family, Larry and Phyllis Schmidt, David Hay and his daughter and Susanah Greenfield.

Birthday wishes go out to Roberta “Aunt Nix” Oswald who celebrated her 80th birthday on May 6. Roberta was treated to several birthday celebrations over the course of a few days. The students of Bitterwater Tully School surprised her with a birthday cake and song on Monday but the one of the best celebrations included a limousine ride from Bitterwater over to the Whaling Station in Monterey for a birthday dinner. Those joining the celebration in Monterey included Nancy and Tim Scolari, Janet Oswald, Zee Wornica, Alice Gaunt, and George Folks. Barbara O’Connor, Dan and Sue Ipson, Ruth Records and the guest of honor, “Aunt Nix.” Happy Birthday Roberta!

Birthday wishes also go out to Alice Gaunt who celebrated a birthday last week as well.

The fourth-eighth grade students from Bitterwater Tully School attended a small schools track meet last Friday at the King City High School. All of the students did extremely well with everyone either winning or placing in their respective events. Our boys and girls relay teams each won first place in their relays as well. Students from Jefferson School attended the event as well and they all placed or won in their events as well.

The K-3 students from Bitterwater School attended a field trip at the Beaver Dam CDF Station last Tuesday. It was without a doubt one of the best field trips of the year. The staff at the fire station went above and beyond with their presentation of the station. Our teachers couldn’t say enough good things about the staff there and what a wonderful field trip it was. Thank you Beaver Dam CDF, you were a highlight of the year for our little ones!

Here’s a quick “hello” to JoEllen Johnson who told me the other day that one of her assignments at San Lorenzo Middle School is to read the paper every Wednesday and my column is the first thing she goes to. Thanks Jo!

Happy fair week everyone. I hope you all have a great week, don’t worry, it’ll be over before we know it! Have a great time, and be sure to give me a call or e-mail with any news you’d like to share at
