South County college students return home for the Thanksgiving
holiday
I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving holiday with your family
and friends. It was so warm on Thanksgiving Day it seemed more like
a spring or summer celebration than a fall celebration. Rain is in
the forecast for next week so let’s all keep our fingers crossed
that it actually does rain this time.

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving holiday with your family and friends. It was so warm on Thanksgiving Day it seemed more like a spring or summer celebration than a fall celebration. Rain is in the forecast for next week so let’s all keep our fingers crossed that it actually does rain this time.

Cynnie O’Connor hosted the annual Thanksgiving Feast at Bitterwater Tully School last Tuesday. It was a pre-Thansgiving dinner for all those on hand as Cynnie prepared a feast for all. Some of those who stopped by to have lunch with the students included Jeff and Jean Schmidt, Kuulei Flores, Lynette Hurley, Jo Ann Scattini and Lynn Dodge, just to name a few.

Many college kids were home for the holiday weekend. Melissa Popnoe arrived home from the University of California, Davis to spend the holiday weekend with her parents, Jeff and Shari Popnoe, in Hollister, as well as grandparents Jeff and Jean Schmidt. Rory Johnsen and Caroline Madson both came home from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo for the holiday weekend as well. Shane O’Connor and John Donham also were home from the weekend as they are both attending Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo.

Bitterwater Tully School students headed north to Hollister on Tuesday for a field trip at Bourdet’s Christmas Tree Farm. Many thanks to John and Tina Bourdet for taking the time to give the kids a tour of the farm. While there, they were given a tour on a narrated sleigh ride where they saw lots of elves, snowmen and even Santa along the way. After the ride, John taught the students about the trees, how they are grown and how they flock them. He also told the kids how they donate many truck loads of trees to our troops and their families. Way to go, John and Tina. Thanks so much for all you do for our troops. I wish everyone could take a little time to thank our troops not only during the holiday season, but all year through as well. The kids had a great time at the farm and I would encourage all schools to take a day to take your students there. You’ll be glad you did.

Many South County residents participated in the Salinas Valley Fair Thanksgiving Weekend Barrel Race last weekend at the fairgrounds. Some of those participating included: Melissa Perry, Nicole Nelson, Jenae Mathis, Cynthia Fancher, Betty Sans, Becky Doty, Carl, Teri and Nicole Donley, Becky Ford and Jenny Graves. There was a great turn out for the race and their next one is scheduled for January 29-31, 2010. Mark your calendars for that exciting event. If you barrel race or know someone who does, you won’t want to miss that one.

Have a great week, and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected] with any news you’d like to share.
