It’s greening up in South County
It was another beautiful, wet weekend out here in Bitterwater,
the grass just seems to be getting greener by the minute these
days. Today (Monday) started off with a colder storm, bringing with
it flurries of snow. As I was doing my morning bus run, the snow
was coming so fast that the windshield wipers wouldn’t go fast
enough. The snow actually stuck for a while too as the hills were
dusted with snow and it covered the cattle’s backs. The school kids
actually all enjoyed their Monday morning bus ride to school!

Huge congratulations to Lady Mustangs’ head coach Adrian Trujillo and to all the Lady Mustangs on their HUGE win last Friday night against Santa Catalina School. It was standing room only in the Mustang gym, and it had a playoff-like atmosphere as Mr. Graham played the National Anthem on the trumpet and the KCHS jazz band played during timeouts and key plays. It was one of the most exciting games I’ve ever watched, and, according to Todd, it was the best thing he’d ever seen, even better than any Super bowl! It was so exciting, even Coach Kline was cheering along the sidelines! The whole team played great, but, obviously I am a little biased to the Bitterwater girls as they’ve been playing together since grade school. Carolyn Madson, Mattie Barrington and Sierra Jo Sans played tough the whole game, never coming out for a breather. Mattie had 20 points, Carolyn had 10 points and Sierra had 6 points. Mattie was named Player of the Game while Sierra earned Defensive Player of the Game. The defense played a huge part in the win and “Mad Dog” and “Pitbull” never let up. They definitely played their games on Friday night. Seems all of King City and Bitterwater residents were there to support the Lady Mustangs.

Some of those enjoying the evening included Jim and Betty Barrington, Les and Betty Sans, Jo Ann Scattini, Josh and Linzy Lindeman, John and Susan Nino, Johnny Joe and Darlene Maggini, Ruth Records and Roberta Oswald and Stan and Arlene Dedini, just to name a few. Stan and Arlene are becoming huge supporters as they even went to the Gonzales game last Wednesday night. Hopefully the Ladies will be traveling to the CCS Finals this year and Stan and Arlene will join them for that trip as well. This week, the Ladies will play in Greenfield on Tuesday night, then, head to Stevenson for another big game on Thursday night. At this point, the Ladyies are in sole possession of first place in the MTAL. Way to go Ladies, keep up the great work. King City is very proud of you!

The Salinas Valley Fair is right around the corner and many 4-H members have been getting their animals for the fair. Many Bitterwater 4-H members headed to Carmel Valley last Saturday to get their pigs. Some of those taking pigs to the fair include Taylor and Twyster Hurley, Cole and Jensen McFarland, Sierra Jo Sans, Mattie and Wacey Barrington and Kassie O’Connor.

Speaking of the Salinas Valley Fair, don’t forget about the fair hostess contest that will be held on April 4th, 2009 at the fairgrounds. The contest is open to young ladies in the 11th or 12th grade who reside in Monterey County or the King City High School district. For more information, contact Marianne Madson or the Salinas Valley Fair office.

Have a great week, and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected] with any news you’d like to share. Go Lady Mustangs!
