Does mild summer signal a wet winter?
It sure was a warm one last week; must be time for school to
start! Seems like it always gets so hot the first week of school,
kind of like Mother Nature is teasing the kids. It has been a
pretty mild summer overall, hopefully that’s an indication that it
will be a really wet winter, keep your fingers crossed for that
one!

Bitterwater Tully School and King City High School started back in session on Monday while Jefferson School started back last week. Some important dates to pass on for Bitterwater include Back to School Night on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 6 p.m., and their annual pancake (French toast) breakfast that will be held on Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 a.m. at the school. As always, the community is invited and encouraged to attend the events. Please be sure to come by and welcome our new teacher/administrator, Kevin Kirschner.

Fall sports will begin this week as well. The King City High girls’ volleyball teams will be hosting their first non-league game of the season on Tuesday at KCHS. The boys’ football team will host a scrimmage on Friday afternoon at the school.

Congratulations to Bitterwater alumna Katie Donham and Jeanine Madson for making volleyball teams this year. Katie couldn’t play last year due to an ankle injury and Jeanine is an incoming freshman. Way to go girls!

Congratulations also go out to Cynnie O’Connor whose photography talents earned her another prize. Her entry was selected to be on the front cover of the new South County telephone book. She earned another nice little cash prize to add to her collection of other awards. Way to go Cynnie!

Birthday wishes go out to Jo Ann Scattini who celebrated her birthday on Aug. 18 and to Twyster Hurley who celebrated on the 24th. Jo Ann celebrated by having her grandkids and niece brand some of her smaller calves, followed by a small barbecue, and Twyster celebrated with a few friends at his Mom’s favorite place (ha ha) Chuck E. Cheese.

Sierra Jo and I spent last Sunday morning at our first King City Riding Club gymkhana of the year at the fairgrounds. We’ve been so busy all year that we haven’t been able to attend any of the other play days but I sure wish we could have. Willie Pantoja and his crew did an outstanding job running the days event and they had everyone in and out in a very timely manner. Some of those participating last Sunday included Blaire Strohn, Taylor Jo and Tatum Hurley, Emily and Sarah Brewen, Sierra Jo Sans, Chesney Brouhard, Dakota Stoughton, Brittany Gilroy, Kelsey Silva, Savannah Hoss and Ella Powers. The riding club will host their final gymkhana of the year on Sept. 7 at the fairgrounds, followed by the Grady Lafferty Junior Rodeo in October. Sierra Jo has decided to high school rodeo this year so she thought this would be a good tune-up for her before her first rodeo in September. Speaking of tune-ups, we will be hosting a Leigh Semas goat tying clinic at our house on Saturday, Sept. 6 if anyone wants a quick lesson or tune-up before any upcoming rodeos or gymkhanas. Please call me ASAP if you’re interested as it is limited to the first eight paid participants and it is filling up fast.

Have a great Labor Day weekend, and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at [email protected] with any news you’d like to share.
