Busy weekend for South County residents
I hope you all had a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend. There
was plenty to do to keep folks busy all weekend long. Memorial Day
is like the unofficial kick-off to summertime – only a few more
weeks left until it begins in earnest.

I hope you all had a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend. There was plenty to do to keep folks busy all weekend long. Memorial Day is like the unofficial kick-off to summertime – only a few more weeks left until it begins in earnest.

Bitterwater Tully and Jefferson School students participated in the small school’s track meet last Friday at King City High School. Congratulations to all those participating and placing in their races. Taylor Jo Hurley and Brody Sans, both of Bitterwater, won all four of their respective events while Taylor Jo and her girls relay team won first in their relay as well. The boys relay team ended up second in their race. Some of those participating in the meet from Bitterwater included: Taylor Jo and Twyster Hurley, Cole and Jensen McFarland, Erin Garcia, Tel Jones, Wacey Barrington, Emily Brewen, Brody Sans, Michael Kreihbel, Thomas Veysey, Nathan Johnson, Lauren Davis and Rachel Diaz. Some of those participating from Jefferson included Cheyenne Rey, Clayton Bacon and Sami Simmons. It was a warm day and everyone had a great time. This week, both teams will spend two days at the Pinnacles National Monument for a science field trip.

The Parkfield Ranch Rodeo was held last weekend down in the little town of Parkfield. Some of those competing from South County included Colleen and Casey Sabin and Hec and Kasey Hurley.

Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo was the site of the 2009 Junior/Senior Prom for King City High School students last Saturday night. The kids took a chartered bus to the Inn, had dinner then danced the night away before returning home again on the bus later that night. Some of those attending the event and looking very handsome and elegant included Rory Johnsen and Beth Carroll, Mattie Barrington and Larry Reeves, Matt Kreihbel and Kylie Owens, Riley Casey and Kambree Borzini, Jacob McAleavey and Sierra Jo Sans, Richard Villagrava and Natalie Madson, Marc Flores and Marin Wolgamott and John Michael Stragen and Caroline Madson just to name a few. The kids had a great time and made memories that will last a lifetime.

The 19th Hole in Tres Pinos will be hosting their first annual Ranch Rodeo on June 7 at the Fox Creek Ranch in Hollister. Some events being offered at the rodeo include a Figure 8 Roping, Steer Stopping, Sort and Rope, Sorting and a new event called In and Bye. Most of the events are open but a few of them also offer a women’s and a junior class as well. Entries can be picked up at the 19th Hole, L. A. Hearne’s in King City, Ranchers Feed in Hollister or by contacting producer Carlos Castillo at 831-628-0100. Sounds like it will be a fun time.

Congratulations goes to Kristy Melton of Hollister for winning the Girls All-Around Championship and State Goat Tying Championship a few weeks ago in Plymouth at the Wrangler Junior High School State Championship Rodeo. Kristy competed against girls from all over the state at the rodeo before claiming her titles. She will now get to go on to the National Wrangler Championships in June in Gallup, New Mexico for her chance to win a National title. Also competing at the state finals were Blaire Strohn, Cheyenne Rey and Clayton Bacon.

First birthday wishes go out to Haley Ann Olvera of Hollister from her great uncle Pete Olvera. Pete said she was his little angel and wanted to send his birthday wishes to her.
