Rain wets South County
Wow, what a storm! The wind was blowing so hard it seemed like
we were in a hurricane zone. I spent all day Monday cleaning out my
gutters and raking up the yard, and by Tuesday morning, I couldn’t
even see my lawn for all the leaves and branches that landed there
overnight. We lost power at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning and it didn’t
get restored until after 8 p.m. that night. It sure seems strange
to have such a big storm this time of year. It seems more like
January or February, not mid October!

I’ve only had a few rain total reports so far. Vern Scattini reported 2.20 inches at 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening, and John Rianda reported that he had 1.30 inches up in Los Banos early in the afternoon. I’m sure there was plenty of rain deposited all over the valley on Tuesday. I heard that another big one is forecast around the Oct. 27. Bring it on Mother Nature, just don’t quit once it starts.

How ’bout them Broncos? I was pretty skeptical last spring when they fired my favorite coach and traded my quarterback, but after beating the Patriots last Sunday, and being 5-0, I’m starting to think that maybe that young buck coach may know what he’s doing after all! It’s a pretty exciting time for Bronco fans these days.

The Bitterwater Lady Badger Volleyball team has been playing extremely well lately. Coached by Tamra Barrington, the ladies are undefeated so far this year. The Badgers will play in a coed scrimmage against Jefferson School this Friday at Bitterwater Tully School.

Also taking place on Friday at Bitterwater School is the monthly hot lunch, hosted by myself, and a VNA Flu Shot clinic. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. and the flu shots will begin at noon. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.

Don’t forget the San Benito County Cattlemen’s Association Ranch Rodeo that is taking place this weekend at the Fox Creek Ranch in Tres Pinos. The event begins at 8 a.m. The weather is supposed to clear up and it should be nice and warm. Great grass-growing weather!

Have a great week and be sure to give me a call or e-mail me at
