Monte Vista Christian seeks both JV baseball and assistant baseball coaches

Monte Vista Christian in Watsonville has a head coach opening for their junior varsity baseball team as well as an opening for an assistant baseball coach for the upcoming season. Sharks, YMCA to start street hockey program at Hollister’s Veterans Memorial

The YMCA of San Benito County will be starting the Sharks and Parks Youth Hockey League on Jan. 31 through the NHL Street Program, with games expected to be held on the basketball courts at Veterans Memorial Park in Hollister. The street hockey program, which will be open to boys and girls in grades 6 though 8, is to encourage a love for the game and companionship between players through the teaching of skills, development of positive attitudes about fair play, teamwork and reinforcement of the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

A meet and greet will kick-off the season on Jan. 31, with the first game slated for Feb. 14. The season is scheduled to run through April 4. Practice times and locations will be determined by the coach. A skills assessment will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Veterans Memorial Park. Registration fees are $90 from Dec. 1 through Jan. 24, while an individual program membership is $30 and a family program membership is $55. Mission 10 Race to be held Jan. 24

The 26th Annual Mission 10 Race will be held on Saturday, Jan. 24 on Second Street’s Mission Plaza in San Juan Bautista. There will be a 10-mile race at 10 a.m., a five-kilometer race at 10:15 a.m., and the Elliott Swank Memorial One-Mile Kids Fun Run at 9 a.m. Race day registration begins at 8 a.m. Entry fee is $20 if received by Jan. 20, $25 thereafter. The Kids Fun Run is $5, or $12 for three or more kids in the same family. Make checks payable to the Hollister Rotary Club. Cardinals cheer clinic slated

The San Benito Cardinals Cheer Clinic will be held on Jan. 19 from 12 to 4 p.m. at Rancho San Justo Middle School in Hollister. The clinic is open for interested parties ages 6- to 14-years-old. The clinic costs $20, with instruction provided by the Gavilan College Rams cheerleaders. Doors open at 11:45 a.m., and the first 50 participants are free. Raffle prizes will be given away every hour. Learn dance and cheer routines, as well as jumps, motions and stunt demonstrations.
